Offbeat treks in Rudraprayag: 6 hidden trails from Bhunalgaon
Most people pass through Rudraprayag on the way to Kedarnath. Very few stop to walk its quiet side. Bhunalgaon, a village near Jakholi in Rudraprayag district, sits right next to forests, meadows and ridges that see almost no crowds. Easy start: Dyuli Bugyal and Khom Bhairavnath
Dyuli Bugyal is a hidden meadow inside Banj and Buransh forest, with the old Bhamnath Temple nearby. It is a 3-day trek rated moderate and works well for families and first-timers. Read the Dyuli Bugyal guide.

A step up: Jakhani and Myona Gaola
Jakhani is an expedition-style route through Khaal, Murkhalyan, Chonu, Kairwadi and Dwari, with multi-night camps in remote forest. Myona Gaola is a challenging route with narrow rocky sections and no steps. It is meant for trekkers who are physically prepared.
The big ones: Rajkharak and Panwali Kantha
Rajkharak climbs past the Myona Gaola region to alpine meadows, medicinal herbs and Shyamru, a whitish-pink high-altitude rhododendron. Matya Bugyal and Panwali Kantha is the longest trek at 8 days, across wide bugyals and old shepherd trails. Read the Panwali Kantha guide.
Basecamp or Raw Wilderness?
Every trek comes in two styles at two prices.
- Basecamp is the comfort style: camp stay, all meals, guided treks, bonfire evenings and first aid.
- Raw Wilderness goes deeper: wilderness tents, camping skills and a mule for your luggage.
When to go
For Dyuli, Jakhani, Rajkharak and Matya, the best months are March to June and October to November. For Khom and Myona, ask the team on WhatsApp for the current season.
How booking works
- Prices are flat per person. No GST is added.
- Book with a 30% advance (minimum ₹2,100). The balance is due 7 days before Day 1.
- Batches start on the 10th and 25th of each month. Bookings close 15 days before each batch.
- Maximum 10 guests per group. Minimum age 10, with a guardian.
